Congratulations Jan!!! With the Iveco Trakker he did it again. Today January 11 2009 Jan de Rooy has won the Dakar rally again. In 1982 he won the rally with a Daf NAT2800, in 1985 with The Bull, a DAF 3300 and in 1987 with the Turbo Twin II a 1000hp 3600 DAF. After a period of disaster in 1988 when DAF and De Rooy lost one of the crew members in the terrible accident De Rooy stopped racing. In the 90s he again was willing to teach his son Gerard how to drive a rally to Dakar. Since that time it never happened to be a real succes, but now, when the son Gerard is driving the rally in Argentia to number one position, Jan wins the Africa Race to the real Dakar! Fantastic. Another great aspect is that Hans Bekx and Jan de Rooy decided to work together in one team and they are really the winning team, since Hans Bekx has the second place overall. Again congratulations. Hopefully son Gerard can make it next week in Argentina. History is made again.
